PikPix Privacy Policy
The short version
PikPix is built so your data stays on your device. Your photos, captions, GPS coordinates, and reports live on your iPhone or iPad. We do not run servers that hold your content. We do not use analytics or tracking tools. We do not sell or share your data with anyone.
Who we are
PikPix is published by Fieldcraft Labs, based in Australia. You can reach us at support@fieldcraftlabs.io. The app's web address is pikpix.app.
What data PikPix handles
PikPix is a field-documentation app. Here is exactly what it touches and where that data lives:
| Data type | Where it lives | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Photos you capture or import | On your device | The core of your field reports |
| Captions, notes, tags | On your device | Context you add to photos |
| GPS coordinates (if you enable location) | On your device | Geotagging field observations |
| Generated reports (PDF) | On your device, until you export | The output you share |
| Contact fields you enter (name, email, company) | On your device, in report headers and footers | Identifying who produced a report |
The specifics
- No analytics. PikPix contains no analytics or tracking software. We do not measure how you use the app, and no usage data leaves your device.
- Crash reporting. If the app crashes, anonymised, aggregated crash diagnostics may be made available to us through Apple's standard tooling (Xcode Organizer) only if you have opted in to sharing diagnostics with developers in your iOS settings. We do not operate our own crash-reporting system.
- On-device storage. In version 1.0, all of your content stays on your device. We do not sync it anywhere. A future version (1.1) is expected to add optional iCloud sync via Apple CloudKit, which would store your data in your own private iCloud account under Apple's terms. That feature does not exist yet, and when it ships it will be optional and clearly described before you turn it on.
- Map imagery. When you include a map in an exported report, PikPix requests map imagery from Mapbox to render that map. This request sends the relevant map coordinates to Mapbox so the imagery can be returned. Mapbox's handling of that request is governed by its own privacy policy. No other data is shared with Mapbox, and maps are only requested when you choose to add one to an export.
- Payments. PikPix subscriptions are handled entirely by Apple's In-App Purchase system. We never see or store your payment-card details. Apple processes the transaction and provides us only with the information needed to confirm your subscription status.
How your data is used
Your data is used only to make the app work for you: organising photos, building reports, and exporting them when you choose. Nothing is transmitted to us, except the limited Mapbox map request and Apple-handled payment processing described above.
Third-party services
PikPix relies on a small number of third-party services, and only for the purposes described above:
- Apple. The App Store, In-App Purchase, and optional crash diagnostics are provided by Apple under Apple's privacy policy.
- Mapbox. Map imagery for exported reports is requested from Mapbox. Only the map coordinates needed to render the image are sent, and only when you add a map to an export. Mapbox's use of that request is governed by the Mapbox privacy policy.
PikPix does not use any advertising networks, data brokers, or analytics providers.
Children's privacy
PikPix is a professional field-documentation tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. Because the app stores data only on your own device and we operate no servers that hold user content, we do not hold any children's data to begin with.
Your rights
Because your data lives on your device, you are in control of it at all times. You can view, edit, export, or delete any photo, report, or field at any moment, directly within the app, with no request to us required.
Depending on where you live, you may also have specific legal rights over your personal data:
- European Union and United Kingdom (GDPR / UK GDPR). You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, and port your personal data, and to object to its processing. Since your data is held on your device and not by us, you exercise these rights directly through the app. Where any limited processing involves us (for example a support email you send us), you may contact us to exercise these rights.
- California (CCPA / CPRA). You have the right to know what personal information is collected, to delete it, to correct it, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. PikPix does not sell or share your personal information, and your content is held on your own device.
- Australia (Australian Privacy Principles). You have the right to access and correct your personal information and to understand how it is handled. This policy sets out our handling, and your data remains under your control on your device.
To make any request or ask a question about your rights, email support@fieldcraftlabs.io.
Security
Because your content is stored on your device, it is protected by your device's own security: your passcode, Face ID or Touch ID, and the encryption iOS applies to app data. Keeping your device updated and protected with a strong passcode is the most effective way to keep your PikPix data secure. Any data Apple holds in connection with payments or optional crash diagnostics is protected under Apple's security practices.
International transfers
Because your content stays on your device, it is not transferred internationally by us. The limited exceptions are the Apple and Mapbox services described above, which may process their respective requests on infrastructure located outside your country, under their own privacy and data-transfer terms.
Data retention
You control retention. Your photos, captions, locations, and reports remain on your device for as long as you keep them, and are removed when you delete them or uninstall the app. We do not retain copies, because we never receive them.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page if our practices change, including before any optional iCloud sync feature is introduced. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page always reflects the current version.
